New Music for
Piano (solo)
The piano has long assumed a special place in the creative work
of Nigel Morgan, the instrument's seemingly neutral acoustic
surface providing a perfect sonic canvas to project new and
sometimes radical musical forms. Inspired by pianists such as
Joanna MacGregor, Joan Dixon, Philip Mead, Ian Pace, Robert
Court and Naomi Osuga, the composer has assembled here a richly
varied collection of new scores.
Here you can download a guide to Nigel Morgan's most recent
music for piano. The guide has been written for performers,
teachers and students to give an overview to the unique opportunities
that these scores offer in a wide range of performance situations.
The Guide to New Music for Piano presents
introductory descriptions and sample score pages from a selection
of scores written since 1996. It has links to three ‘Satellite’
Guides that feature music for piano duo (two pianos and piano
duet), for keyboard (organ, harpsichord, piano with electronics),
and for piano in chamber music and song accompaniment. These
Guides are designed for viewing in PDF format with Acrobat
Reader or Preview on a computer linked to the Internet.
This enables the reader to have instant access to the extensive
interpretation material, reference and performance recordings,
and downloadable study scores available on the composer's
website.
All PDF viewers and web-browsers should be compatible with
these guides, however, Safari
users should enable tabbed browsing for best results.
Tabbed browsing should be the default mode on both Internet
Explorer and Firefox.
In addition to these guides, Tonality Systems Press has compiled
two volumes of selected piano music, which can be freely obtained
here.
