New Music for Piano in Chamber Music and Song

The piano has an important role in many of Nigel Morgan's large-scale chamber works and song cycles. Rarely is the use of the instrument just as accompaniment: it is usually given its own very distinctive voice and purpose. Recent scores include three substantial vocal works with piano, four duo compositions for each member of the string family, and two single-movement piano trios.

Here you can download a guide to Nigel Morgan's most recent music for the piano in chamber music and songs. The guide has been written for performers, teachers and students to give an overview to the unique opportunities that these scores offer in a wide range of performance situations.

The Guide to New Music for Piano in Chamber Music and Songs presents introductory descriptions and sample score pages of a selection of scores written since 1998. It has links to three ‘Satellite’ Guides that feature music for Piano Solo, for Keyboard (organ, harpsichord, piano with electronics), and music for Piano Duo. These Guides are designed for viewing in PDF format with Acrobat Reader or Preview on a computer linked to the Internet. This enables the reader to have instant access to the extensive interpretation material, reference and performance recordings, and downloadable study scores available on the composer's website. All PDF viewers and web-browsers should be compatible with these guides, however, Safari users should enable tabbed browsing for best results. Tabbed browsing should be the default mode on both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

In addition to these guides, Tonality Systems Press has compiled two volumes of selected piano music, which can be freely obtained here.
